Q: Introduce yourself: what’s your name, age, where are you from, where do you currently live?
Fidele: I am Fidele Wabenga, a 27-year-old Congolese changemaker, freelance filmmaker, and proud refugee. My life's purpose revolves around sharing the compelling stories of refugees, using my skills to make a positive impact and amplify the voices of those who often go unheard.
Q: You've been a part of the Kakuma story for a while now. Can you share a bit about your journey—where are you originally from and how long have you called Kakuma home?
Fidele: With a decade of experience, I have dedicated my professional journey to humanitarian work within the challenging environment of Kakuma Refugee Camp. Originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo, my expertise lies in managing and contributing to various refugee projects.
My commitment to this field is driven by a profound motivation to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by displacement, leveraging my skills to address the complex challenges within the humanitarian landscape. I call Kakuma home because is the place that has taught me life.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Kakuma refugee camp, and what do you miss the most about your hometown or country?
Fidele: To me, Kakuma Refugee Camp is more than just a place—it's my 'University of Life.' It serves as a profound teacher, imparting invaluable lessons through life experiences. Despite being far from my birthplace, I cannot forget my home country, as it will forever remain the place where I first opened my eyes to the world.
Q: Can you share a bit about your background and how you got involved in videography/photography?
Fidele: I'm a filmmaker with skills and experience as a videographer, photographer, producer in sound, directing and acting in social media as content creator. I know how to use lots of film software and cameras.
I am eager to contribute my experiences and abilities in helping organizations achieve its mission and goals. I also have experience in working with many organizations and experience working with children and people with disabilities here in Kakuma Refugee camp.

Fidele: My proficiency in videography has garnered appreciation, particularly within the humanitarian sector. I initially acquired these skills through the guidance of my mentor, Batakane, who is currently residing in Australia.
His introduction to videography inspired me to delve deeper into the craft. I furthered my knowledge by actively researching and watching tutorials on social media, enhancing my skills day by day. Looking ahead, I am eager to collaborate and learn from experienced professional videographers outside of Africa to broaden my expertise.
Q: Which year did you start Season of the Time Media and how did you start this business/company?
Fidele: In 2012, we founded Season of the Time Media Productions with the objective of amplifying the voices of refugees globally. Recognizing that many refugees face challenges in having their voices heard due to circumstances such as war and insecurity, and acknowledging the untapped talents within our community, I was inspired to make a difference.
Upon interacting with fellow refugees and understanding their struggles, I resolved to establish a tuition-free learning center. The primary goal of this center is to empower refugees by providing them with valuable training and skills.
By doing so, I aim to contribute to the well-being of their families and future generations, recognizing the transformative impact education and skills development can have on individuals and communities.
Q: Crafting documentaries and training the next generation of media enthusiasts—what drives your passion for this work? What's the one thing you absolutely love about what you do?
Fidele: My project's passion lies in fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience within the refugee community. By amplifying their voices through media production and providing them with education and skills, I'm not just addressing immediate challenges but sowing the seeds for a more hopeful future.
