By Abdul-Karim Mohammad Awaf, Ghana-based contributing reporter for Ambitious.Africa.
Nordic Startup School hosted a workshop together with startup accelerator consulting company Framlabs and Ambitious.Africa on September 16th for African startups. The aim was to lay the groundwork for accelerating the tech ecosystem in Africa and help the startups become profitable.
Nordic Startup School (NSS), Framlabs and Ambitious.Africa hosted a workshop on Wednesday, September 18th to connect early-stage African startups and ambitious entrepreneurs. The purpose was to get a better understanding of things like the startups’ customers, their pains and what solutions startups came up with to address these pains. The event also helped the startups develop an elevator pitch and as well as explore funding opportunities.
The event provided a good ambiance for the participating African startups to build and extend their network to the Nordics. The startups got a taste of the NSS acceleration, where participants get the opportunity to be transferred to the Startup School’s signature three month program. The program provides business mentorship and a chance to continue building one’s business with support from Ambitious.Africa for the next two years.
The event was online, enabling participants to join from all across Africa. The startups for the workshop were selected by Ambitious.Africa. Preference was given to companies with two or three members per team.
The UN has predicted that Africa will add 1.3 billion people between 2015 and 2050. Part of this figure belongs to the Next Billion Users bracket which presents a great opportunity for startups on the continent. It’s therefore anticipated that this year’s event will enhance the capacity of early-stage startups on the African continent to scale up through the new networks they get to build, the new skills they learn, and the funding opportunities they will be exposed to.
